About the Blog

After over twenty years of avoiding kitchens at all costs, Bonnie saw Julie and Julia and her life changed. Around the same time, she attended her first burlesque show and, subsequently, her first acrobatic pole class. Slowly, sweetly, the two worlds combined.

The Hot and Bothered Kitchen is where baking and burlesque meet. When not selling baked goods at Beggars' Carnivale (St. Louis' monthly vaudeville/burlesque show), Bonnie continues to bake and cook new and different food for family, friends, or just herself. Oh, and she pole dances whenever she feels like it.

About the Burlesque

Burlesque has been around for a very long time. What is it? Burlesque is the art of the tease, the selling of the sizzle instead of the steak. It is the telling of a story through music and, yes, through removal of clothing. It can be humorous, sad, angry, joyful and, of course, sexual. It is done by girls, by boys, in solo, duo, or group acts. The possibilities are endless, as regularly demonstrated by such St. Louis performers as the Randy Dandies, the BonBons, and Lola Van Ella

The burlesque scene in St. Louis includes a strong acrobatic pole contingent. This is not the type of pole dancing that you may first think of. This is a choreographed, acrobatic, athletic, aerial artform that takes a hell of a lot of work. In St. Louis it is headed up by Michelle Mynx, one half of the world-famous pole duo Gravity Plays Favorites.
